Wine and Roses, presented by Burns Brothers and Evergreen GaveKal, was attended by more than 450 Viking supporters and fans. The proceeds from the evening's silent and oral auctions and other fund-raising activities will go to fund athletic scholarships for Portland State University.
The evening included a special presentation to long-time supporter Peter W. Stott for more than three decades of contributions and commitment to the program. The number 18 was retired by the athletics program in his honor, acknowledging his great success in the 18-wheel trucking industry.
Also playing a role in the evening's festivities were former Vikings and current NFL stars Julius Thomas and DeShawn Shead. Both Thomas, an All-Pro tight end with the Denver Broncos, and Shead, a Super Bowl XLVIII Champion with the Seattle Seahawks, spoke to the crowd and thanked them for support throughout their PSU careers.
Other moments included a presentation on current All-American punter - and former member of the Army - Kyle Loomis; and a testimonial from former Viking quarterback Joe Wiser on the great opportunity presented him by an athletic scholarship at Portland State.
"The night was an overwhelming success," said Tygue Howland, Portland State Athletics' Director of the Annual Fund and Special Events. "There were many incredible moments during the evening highlighting the amazing things happening in Portland State Athletics right now; from hosting several new sponsors, to honoring Mr. Stott, to recognizing our two star NFL alums, to seeing our guests step up with a record level of support for our student-athletes. We were extremely pleased by the success of Wine and Roses again this year and would like to thank all of our supporters for their tremendous generosity."
