Faculty and staff at Portland State University have a number of low-cost transportation options, including annual discounted TriMet passes, free Zipcar membership and two new bike garages.

Annual TriMet PASSPORT stickers, good for buses, light rail trains, and street cars through August 2011, are now available for $418 a year or $38 a month for 11 months with payroll deduction. Additional benefits include discounted daily parking and a free taxi ride home or to a medical facility in case of an emergency.

All benefits-eligible employees also can join the car-sharing service Zipcar for free for personal errands and business trips. Several Zipcars are parked on campus. Go to www.zipcar.com/psu for more details.

Permits for employees and students to use two new dry, secure bike garages are $15 a term. The Montgomery Street Bike Garage is at SW 11th Avenue and Montgomery Street across from King Albert Hall. The Harrison Street Bike Garage, scheduled to open in late August, is at Southwest Fifth Avenue and Harrison Street.

Keep your bike running safely and smoothly at the PSU Bike Hub in the Student Rec Center at the corner of Southwest Sixth Avenue and Harrison Street. Memberships $30 per year and include repair assistance, discounts, and free workshops.
