How Study Tours Work

Leaders from around the globe visit Portland to learn its sustainability story. First Stop Portland custom-designs study tours for visiting delegations based on their particular interest in Portland.

We provide planning and logisitical support for visitors interested in learning Portland's sustainability story. Usually three to five days in length, our study tours consist of field studies, site visits, presentations, workshops, lectures, networking opportunities, and social events. Through these activities, we connect visitors with local leaders and experts from government, business, university and non-profit sectors to share innovative ideas and best-practices.

Every study tour is unique, custom-designed for each delegation. Contact us to begin designing your Study Tour, or read more about the parts of a Study Tour, below.

Presentations +
Debriefs

Presentations provide important background information and set the context for in-the-field learning. Facilitated debrief sessions are an opportunity  for peers to share feedback, exchange ideas and brainstorm solutions. See how presentations and debrief sessions might fit in your study tour.

Field Studies +
Site Visits

Field studies are extended periods of study in the city or region, often made up of visits to particular sites of interest. They give visitors an opportunity to experience Portland's sustainability practices in the daily life of the city. Explore ways of learning from field studies and site visits.

Networking +
Social Events

Relationships can be as important as experiences and information. First Stop Portland helps visitors make meaningful connections with Portland's green "brain trust" through strategic networking and social events. See how networking and social events can be a part of your visit.
