FAQs

How do I choose templates for my pages in Drupal?

Each page within your site includes a choice of layout template for the page. To access the templates, open a page in Edit mode and click the Template Settings heading to expand that section of the editing form.

As you click through the layout templates thumbnails, information about that template appears below the thumbnail images. The information could provide

  • options related to the number and relative size of Branding Images,
  • recommendations for Branding Image dimensions,
  • options related to the relative position of Branding Image and Intro Text, or
  • options related to fixed or random Branding Images.

Also, some templates include more elements that others, which changes how the editing form appears. For example, the Primary Page template includes fields for Branding Images, Intro Text, and the Body, while the X-Level Page template simply includes a field for the Body.

Home Page and Home Page Slider Templates

Home Page templateHome Page Slider templateThe home page of a site should use the Home Page or Home Page Slider template only. Assigning any of the other templates results in a seriously bad looking page. In a new site, the Home Page template is the default selection for the site home page.

The Home Page template presents the following options:

  • A single Branding Image that appears every time the page loads.
  • As many as four Branding Images that are randomly generated as the page loads.

Alll Branding Images used with this template should be at least 845 pixels wide x 280 pixels tall.

For instructions on using the Home Page Slider template, see this FAQ: How do I set up the slider template for my homepage in my Drupal site?

Primary Page Template

Use the Primary Page template for top-level pages in your site; however, if you don't have content for the Branding Image and Intro Text fields, it's better to choose a different page layout template.

This template presents the following options:

  • A single Branding Image that spans the page width (minimally 680 pixels wide x 250 pixels tall).
  • Two Branding Images of differing sizes (minimally 452 pixels wide x 20 pixels tall for the left image and 226 pixels wide x 250 pixels tall for the right image).
  • Two Branding Images of the same dimensions (minimally 339 pixels wide x 250 pixels tall).

The Intro Text region overlaps the bottom portion of the Branding Image

Section Page Template

Primary Page templateUse the Section Page template when you want the entire contents of the Body field split into two equal columns. You may find that you rarely, if ever, assign this template to one of your pages.

This template presents the following options:

  • A Branding Image to the left of the Intro Text.
  • A Branding image to the right of the Intro Text.

The Branding Images used with this template should be at least 325 pixels wide x 250 pixels tall.

Sub-Section Page Template

Sub-Section Page templateThe Sub-Section Page template is the default page layout template selection for all new pages. You can leave this selection as-is or adjust it as needed.

This template presents the following options:

  • A single branding image that spans the width of the page (minimally 680 pixels wide by 200 pixels tall).
  • Two Branding Images of differing size, with the smaller left image on the left (minimally 226 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall for the left image and 452 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall for the right image).
  • Two Branding images of differing size, with the smaller image on the left (minimally 452 pixels wide x 200 pixels tall for the left image and 226 pixels wide by 200 pixels tall for the right image).

This template does not include space for Intro Text.

X-Level Page Template

X-Level Page templateThe X-Level Page template is the generic template, perfect for pages that don't warrant Branding Images or Intro Text.
