Policies and Policy Making

As a member of the Oregon University System (OUS) and a state entity, Portland State University (PSU) is governed by Oregon Revised Statutes (ORS) OUS policy and Oregon Administrative Rules (OAR).

However, given the size and complexity of the enterprise, occasionally it becomes necessary to propagate new policies that address a particular PSU issue. At PSU we create two types of policies: Internal Management Directives (IMD) and departmental policies. In either case these policies are designed to help the university guide and determine present and future administrative decisions while supporting the general goals and accepted procedures of the University.

New Policies: Should there be a need to propagate a new policy, please contact the Office of the General Counsel and they will assist you with the process.

General Portland State University Policies: These IMDs reside in the Office of Finance and Administration and can be found here.

All other PSU policies: These are maintained by their departments of origin (Academic Affairs, Affirmative Action, Auxillary Services, Business Affairs, Campus Public Safety, Communications, Dean of Students, Development, Facilities, Financial Aid, Human Resources, Information Technology, Library, Registration, Research Administration, and Student Health and Counseling) and can be found below.
