Extended Campus

Please be aware of changes to the Extended Campus Program (ECP) beginning summer 2013.

These changes are intended to improve your overall PSU experience by streamlining some administrative processes and to ensure the future viability of online degree offerings.

Course Offerings
In the past there has been a fairly restricted list of courses from which to choose to pursue the Social Science or Liberal Studies major. While we will continue to reserve seats for ECP students in traditional ECP courses, you will also now have greater access to all online courses that PSU has to offer. As in the past, each term you will receive a link to courses which have seats reserved for ECP students.

Salem Courses
Beginning summer 2013, PSU will no longer offer courses in Salem for the Liberal Studies and Social Science majors.  While a convenience for some students, the current level of enrollment in these courses is not sustainable. Online courses, which serve the same function, will continue to be available to these majors.

Academic Advising
You will now be served by the College of Liberal Arts & Sciences (CLAS) Advising Office. The CLAS office is comprised of advisers who already work with students pursuing interdisciplinary majors: Liberal Studies, Social Sciences, Sciences, and Arts and Letters. They are available to assist with: major, general education and degree requirements; University policy and procedures and; referrals to other University services. There are multiple advisers available for you to communicate with via email, phone or in-person appointments.  To schedule an appointment, please call 503-725-3822.

Tuition and Fees
Historically, ECP students have paid a program fee instead of regular PSU tuition. Beginning with summer 2013, all students will be charged regular PSU tuition and fees. This will result in a modest increase in cost.

Student Health Insurance
One fee that we want to bring to your attention is the Student Health Insurance Plan fee. Those of you who have taken courses on campus in the past may have paid for or opted out of this fee. Starting summer 2013 all continuing ECP students will now need to pay this fee or opt out of it by providing proof of another health insurance plan. For details, visit the Student Health and Counseling website.

In closing, we want to do anything we can to ease you through this transition toward the achievement of your academic goals.

Given the changes above, it is important that we hear from you. Please take a few minutes to complete this brief survey to clarify and reaffirm your academic goals. For continuing students, based on your survey response, details about course offerings for summer will follow.

Sincerely,
Robert Shunk
Assistant Director, Extended Campus Program
