OH WHAT A LOVELY WAR
Directed by Glenn Gauer
In 1914 when the Army came to town they wanted just one thing - YOU! By
1918, millions of recruits had left their homes and families and never
returned. Ninety years later, in the shadow of Iraq, a battalion of
actors and musicians tell their story.
Oh What a Lovely War is an entertainment that combines a chilling documentary of the First World War with a cabaret of music and comedy performed by a troupe of classical circus clowns. With sketches and a repertoire of unforgettable songs from the period, the play recounts the courage, terror and resilience of the men who fought in the trenches, and the stupidity and callousness of the politicians and generals who sent them to their deaths.
Featuring such songs as 'Keep the Home Fires Burning' and 'It's a Long Way to Tipperary', this exhilarating expose` of an unforgettable moment in history is a vibrant and touching account of the four years that shaped the twentieth century. So pack up your troubles and take your seats.
Not suitable for young children.
