When: October 28, 2008

Dear Friend of the Department of Economics:
I am writing to invite you to Whither Our Economy: A Faculty Panel Discussion on the Financial Crisis. This special seminar will take place on Wednesday, October 29, 2008 7:00--8:30 PM in Smith Memorial Student Union Room 294 at Portland State University.
The financial crisis in the United States has dominated headlines in recent weeks, and the faculty of the Department of Economics at Portland State University has been following developments closely. To help us sort through the complex set of issues associated with the crisis, we have assembled a distinguished panel of experts made up of members of the faculty of the Department of Economics. Panelists include Associate Professor Hiro Ito, Visiting Associate Professor Andri Rossi de Oliveira, Professor and Oregon State Economist Tom Potiowsky, and Professor John Walker. Each will be speaking on a different aspect of the crisis. At least 30 minutes will be devoted to questions and answers.
We hope you are able to join us for this important event. Attached please find an invitation that I would encourage you to circulate. Also attached is a list of our regularly-scheduled seminars during fall term. These all deal with economics of the environment and natural resources, which is an important focus of the Department of Economics.
We hope you can join us for those events as well.
