THE JOY OF PRINTS is a collection of prints by Professor Dong Lim Chung who is a Visiting Scholar at Portland State University from Kyungwon University in South Korea. Her prints represent two directions in her thinking while in Oregon this year.
One is expressive in the use of simple images and sensitive color reflecting the scenery in Oregon using her skills in the media of watercolor and silk screen printing. The other contrasts the expressionism of the Oregon landscape images with the traditional images and color, figures of humans and animals, drawn from ancient tomb murals in Korea. These are watercolors and etchings.
Joy and Love are a consistent theme in Dong-Lim Chung's work. She has drawn from her recent experiences, taking inspiration from the spectacular scenery in Oregon and the quiet sentiment expressed in tomb paintings in a tumulus in Korea.
