Human and Natural Influences on the Portland Landscapes
Geography Colloquium (GEOG 4/510)
Portland State University
The theme of the Fall Geography colloquium addresses the issue of human - landscape interactions as part of the ecology of an urban landscape.
Human settlement patterns strongly respond to the natural landscape, and with sufficient population and technology, humans greatly modify a landscape. Yet the fundamental natural processes that influence the natural landscape remain.
The goal of this colloquium is to examine interactions between humans and landscape in the urban setting of Portland, Oregon, to better understand why the urban area has evolved to its present state, and hopefully identify the important challenges for a sustainable future.
