Portland State University Center for Transportation Studies Spring 2005 Transportation Seminar Series presents If You're Not Part of the Solution, You're Part of the Problem: The Planner's Role in Meeting the Transportation Needs of an Aging Society.
Speaker: Sandra Rosenbloom, University of Arizona
Time: Friday, June 3, 2005, 12:00 - 1:30 p.m.
Location: PSU Urban Center, SW 6th and Mill, Room 204; see map.
Rosenbloom will discuss the many ways in which the concerns of an aging population touch on all the major hot button planning issues--from Smart Growth to the link between community design and public health. She will explore the reasons why planners seem so unresponsive to the needs of older people who will shortly compose over 25% of the total US population; she will identify the role planners can and should play in meeting those needs.
