Telluride Mountainfilm Festival fundraiser for Portland Mountain Rescue
Portland, Oregon. The Outdoor Program at Portland State University and Portland Mountain
Rescue are hosting the Telluride Mountainfilm Festival. The festival will be held in the
Smith Memorial Student Union (SMSU) Ballroom (room #355) at Portland State University on
Thursday January 31st, 2008 from 6:30 to 11:00 pm. There will be a raffle, silent
auction, and an excellent selection of adventure films. All proceeds from ticket sales
benefit Portland Mountain Rescue.
Portland Mountain Rescue is an organization dedicated to saving lives through rescue and
education. The students of the Outdoor Program at PSU are helping to organize the
festival in order to support the people who help keep us safe in the mountains. PMR is a
non-profit, volunteer organization. All funding is derived from individual donations,
grants and other types of fundraising. PMR does not receive financial support from the
government. Team members do not receive compensation for their work and are not
reimbursed for their expenses whatsoever. PMR staff spend countless hours of their free
time - and occasionally their work time - training and learning so that they will be
ready to respond to a search and rescue operation on a moment's notice.
Twenty-nine years ago, a group of climbers and friends cut the ribbon on Mountainfilm in
Telluride. Add neighbor Royal Robbins, the American Alpine Club?s Bob Craig, and you
could darn well print a letterhead. Former Climbing owner/publisher Michael Kennedy and
Patagonia founder Yvon Chouinard joined up shortly thereafter and an idea crept toward
becoming an institution. For over a quarter of a century, the Festival has sustained the
founder?s dream?evolving (mutating perhaps) but still true to the core idea that friends,
adventure, passion, and powerful ideas are as seductive as ever.
Please come support Portland Mountain Rescue while enjoying a fantastic evening of
adventure films. Tickets are available at the PSU box office, through Ticketmaster, or
at the door.
