Take Back the Night/Bike Back the Night 2012:
Survivors on the margins: Exposing Barriers, Breaking Silence
Thursday, April 26th from 5:30pm - 8:30pm
PSU South Park Blocks
Take Back The Night/Bike Back the Night seeks to end sexual violence in all of its forms including sexual assault, sexual abuse, dating violence, and domestic violence. TBTN/BBTN provides a space that allows survivors to empower themselves in the healing process while inviting allies to educate themselves on the impact of sexual violence in their community in order to inspire responsibility in all. Our goal is to create safe communities and respectful relationships through awareness events and initiatives.
This year, our theme is, “Survivors on the margins: Exposing Barriers, Breaking Silence”. Portland State University’s Women’s Resource Center and the Portland Women’s Crisis Line aim to raise awareness around the sexual violence that marginalized communities face and the specific barriers they may experience as a result of racism and gendered violence.
The evening will include a resource fair, entertainment, and speakers Elizabeth Norton and Rut Martinez-Alicea. The evening’s schedule will be:
5:30: Doors open, tabling & food. Magdelin performs
6:30: Spoken Word by Imarisha
6:40: Rut Martinez-Alicea
7:00: March & Bike Ride
7:35: Elizabeth Norton
7:45: Survivor Speak Out, Candle Light Vigil
