BIG LOVE by Charles Mee
An idyllic Italian villa's evening is shattered. From Greece, 50 brides
flee an arranged marriage, seeking asylum from their Italian neighbors.
The 50 jilted grooms pursue in this modern re-making of one of the
western world's oldest plays, The Suppliant Women by Aeschylus.
Representing their 47 brothers and 47 sisters, three women and three men
stake a claim to their destiny. Muscular and delightful, bracing and
heart-breaking, funny and excessive, BIG LOVE exposes the magnitude of
our feelings when desire and freedom collide. BIG LOVE (re)makes the
myth and exposes the collisions that happen at the intersection of human
relationships. It asks "Who are we willing to help?" and "What is the
cost of freedom?"
BIG LOVE marks Devon Allen's Portland premier. Allen is an award winning actor who has joined the faculty of the Department of Theater Arts Faculty this year to head the Acting program.
