Service Learning in India: Engagement and Cultural Understanding

  • Explore the deep roots of Indian society from a socioeconomic and cultural perspective with an emphasis on women’s issues
  • Discover Indian art, architecture, festivals, industry and history through formal lectures, visits to sites, and field work
  • Provide service within the Indian community

Participants will travel to Madurai, India where they will explore the culture and society of southern India, particularly with regard to the socio-economic factors that impact grassroots service organizations. Students and faculty will move from tourist/observer to active engagement by participating in local service learning activities.
