Portland State University, OR, May 14, 2007 Professor David A. Horowitz of the PSU Department of History is organizing a dramatic reading and multimedia presentation introducing his newly published book on the populist cultural history of America from the 19th century to the present day. The People's Voice event takes place in Room 338 of Smith Memorial Center starting at 7:30pm on May 24, and will include a book signing with copies of the book available at authors discount.

The full title of Dr. Horowitz' new book is The People's Voice: A Populist Cultural History of Modern
America. It starts with the literary legacy of 19th century stalwarts Walt Whitman, Mark Twain, and
Stephen Foster and continues to our current national cultural expressions including television and hiphop According to Horowitz, it chronicles the outpouring of cultural expression in America . . .addressing the everyday experiences, aspirations and problems of ordinary people." The dramatic readings will be given by friends and colleagues of the PSU history professor, including KBOO talk show host Joe Uris, artist and writer Walt Curtis, Dory Hylton, David Milholland and freelance researcher and writer Gloria Myers.

The event is free and open to the public. It is co-sponsored by Friends of History and by Oregon
