Portland State University Presents Susan Chan in Concert at Carnegie Hall and Lincoln Hall

PSU Music faculty member and piano area coordinator Susan Chan will perform in recital at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall in New York City on Sunday, September 16th at 2:00pm. The concert will be followed by a reception hosted by the PSU Alumni Association for New York area alumni, donors, and friends. Tickets for the recital are available through the Carnegie Hall Box Office at 212-247-7800.

A preview concert for the Carnegie Hall appearance will be held for Portland audiences on Thursday, August 30th at 7:00pm in Lincoln Performance Hall on the Portland State University campus. The community is invited, and tickets are available through Ticketmaster or by contacting the PSU Box Office in Smith Memorial Student Union at 503-725-3307.

In November 2000, Susan Chan made her New York recital debut in Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall. The New York Concert Review reported: "A gripping performanceshe enveloped her audience with the simple eloquence and love with which she so lavishly interpreted this music."

Susan Chan has been featured on Public Television and Radio in the US as well as Radio Television Hong Kong. Various prizes she has been awarded in competitions include first prizes in the Hong Kong Young Musicians Award, the Indianapolis Matinee Musicale and the Mozart Piano Concerto Competition at Indiana University. She has performed in recitals and music festivals in the US and Canada, Europe, Australia, and Asia, including the Dartington International Summer School in the UK.

Ms. Chan actively promotes music from Asia and that written by women composers in addition to traditional repertoire. Her Weill Recital Hall concert and the Portland concert will include selections by Bach and Chopin, and by Doming Lam (New York and Portland Premieres), Chen Yi, Somei Satoh and Alexina Louie. The concerts are made possible with the support of the School of Fine and Performing Arts, the Department of Music, and the PSU Alumni Association.

Ticket prices for the August 30th concert in Lincoln Performance Hall are: Adults $20; PSU Alumni Association Members $16; Seniors and Non-PSU Students $12. PSU Faculty, Staff, and Students are admitted free with PSU ID. For tickets or more information, contact the PSU Box Office at 503-725-3307.
