On September 19, 2011, Portland State University will launch an official Foursquare site, a location-based mobile platform, to engage with current and prospective students, alumni, faculty, staff, and the community. Foursquare users can discover new places and experiences on the PSU campus using their smartphones.
PSU’s Foursquare site features credible “insider tips” for over 60 different campus “check-in” venues and their fun specials and campaigns. PSU continues to expand its presence in the social media realm with active participation on other social sites including Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, and Flickr.
During PSU’s Viking Days (Sept. 19-25), Foursquare users who “check-in” at the “Portland State University” venue will win free PSU sunglasses. PSU plans to offer specials and loyalty rewards throughout the year. PSU’s Foursquare site can be found at: http://www.foursquare.com/portland_state .
“Like all our other social media initiatives, Foursquare is another viable and fun tool we are using to communicate with our students,” said PSU Social Media Specialist Christian Aniciete. “What really separates Foursquare from other social sites are the platform’s fun incentives and the ability to share experiences with others.”
Foursquare is a location-based mobile platform that helps students, alumni, and staff connect with each other, find new and interesting things to do, and earn rewards for exploring their campus and nearby areas. Foursquare combines a communication platform and a campus guidebook to create a fun experience for its users; students earn points, win ‘Mayorships’ and unlock badges for checking in to places and trying out new activities on campus.
