Professor David Burney of the National Tropical Botanical Garden in
Hawaii will present a talk titled "Madagascar: Anatomy of a Catastrophe"
at 10:00 am on Wednesday 11 October
in Smith Student Union, room 236 (Cascade Room).
Professor Burney's research focuses on paleoenvironmental studies and causes of extinction. He has used paleoecological techniques such as palynology and stratigraphic analysis to study late Quaternary environmental changes and extinctions in North America, Africa, Madagascar, and Hawaii. He has made significant contributions to our understanding of extinction processes and the challenge of sorting out the human role in causing these biotic losses.
Professor Burney's visit will be hosted by the PSU Anthropology Dept.
