Lecture by Dr. Cherry Muhanji: "The Blueswomen" - April 26
Among her many accomplishments as a novelist, poet, and scholar in cultural studies, Dr. Muhanji has a longstanding interest in Black musical expression. Her lecture, "The Blueswomen: Black Divas of the 1920's" focuses on the Blueswomen, wildly popular as performers and recording artists, who created a unique musical legacy. Speaking "truth to power," they sang about the divide between rich and power, the effect of racism and sexism in Black women's experience.
Dr. Muhanji will discuss their lives, careers and music Thursday, April 26 from 12-2pm in the PSU Multicultural Center (SMSU 228). For more information, call 503-725-5672. Lecture presented by the Departments of Women's Studies, Music, Black Studies, English, the Women's Resource Center, AAA, and the Speaker's Board.
