Korean Film Festival: Screening of "Cyrano Agency"

Portland State University's Korean Student Association (KSA) and Institute for Asian Studies present

A Korean Film Festival & fundraiser for Korean Studies at PSU.

Admission:

  • FREE w/PSU ID
  • $5/general admission **
  • Children under 7 are free
  • Special FREE admission for everyone on April 28

** All proceeds benefit the Korean Studies Program at PSU.  Additional contributions will be accepted at the door.

Location: 

  • All films will screen at the PSU 5th Ave. Cinema, 510 SW Hall St., Portland, except on April 28.
  • Location of April 28th film is the PSU School of Business Bldg, room SBA 190

Films include romantic comedy, drama, and documentaries.

Writer and director Lee ChangDong, tells the moving story of a woman in the 60s, who, while working as a caretaker for a disabled man and raising her irresponsible grandson, must confront the onset of Alzheirmer's.  She develops an interest in poetry as a means to cope and in turn discovers beauty in the mundane.

Don’t Cry for me Sudan   (2010; 90 min. documentary; Korean w/English subtitles)

Director Coo Soo-Hwan documents the life of Catholic Father Tae-Seok John Lee who worked as a doctor, teacher, conductor, architect, and priest in the small Sudan village of Tong.  After his death in 2010 a funeral was held for him by the local Dinka tribe with many of the tribal warriors in tears.

Jeon Woo Chi: the Taoist Wizard  (2009; 136 min, Korean w/English subtitles)
Director Choi Dong-hoon's action, comedy, fantasy movie depicts a tale from the Chosen Dynasty, about a wizard that has been quested to save pipe of prophecy from the hands of the evil goblins and restore order in the world. (Contains violence, rated PG-13/R)
