This past December, The Jazz Bridge Project, in conjunction with Portland-Khabarovsk Sister City Association (PKSCA) conducted the first-ever jazz cultural exchange with Khabarovsk, Portland’s sister city in Russia. For the occasion, the Jazz Bridge Project commissioned the creation of “The Amur Suite” an original jazz composition in seven movements, based on traditional Russian folk songs, and inspired by photographs of Khabarovsk's Amur River. Each movement was written by a different Portland jazz composer, including Darrell Grant, Charley Gray, Scott Hall, Alan Jones, Gordon Lee, Andrew Oliver & Ezra Weiss. The Amur Suite received an enthusiastic reception at several performances in Russia. This free Portland performance of the piece will be part of Augustana Lutheran's weekly Jazz Worship service.
