This is a class that focuses on both the theoretical and practical side of mountaineering. This is the first in a series of classes with the objective of preparing you to become a member of a rope-team on alpine ascents in the northwest. The seminar consists of two classroom sessions (on campus) and one field session that will take place on Mt Hood or Mt Adams (depending on conditions). The practicum part of the seminar will be physically demanding. A ‘good level’ of physical fitness is expected. You will be carrying heavy packs and sleeping in below freezing temperatures. The equipment list is provided to help you prepare for the trip, we expect you to have the equipment on the list!

There are two classes from 5:30-8:30 on Tuesday 4/12 and Thursday 4/14 and a field session on Mt Hood (overnight) 4/16-4/17.
