"The 'Great' art tradition in the Eurasian steppe: stone monuments in the Mongolian landscape"

Dr. Esther Jacobson-Tepfer, professor emeritus of Art History at the University of Oregon will give a lecture on ancient Mongolian steppe rock art.

Dr.Jacobson-Tepfer's current research focuses on rock art sites of the Mongolian Altai and their implications for our knowledge of paleo-environment, ancient economies, and the organization of society in the Bronze and Early Iron Ages.

Since 1994 Dr. Jacobson-Tepfer has been collaborating with Russian and Mongolian colleagues on a project located in the Mongolian Altay and has focuesed on understanding the cultural ecology of the ancient Altay region.  For more info see http://darkwing.uoregon.edu/~altay/
