Gala benefit to raise finishing funds for a documentary film on the Oregon State Hospital.
Sunday, June 7, 2009 - 6:00pm

What: Gala benefit to raise finishing funds for a documentary film on the Oregon State Hospital.

Title of Project: Guilty Except for Insanity
Tagline: Maddening journeys through an American asylum

What: The benefit celebrates the production-still underway-of Guilty Except for Insanity, a documentary film directed by psychology professor Jan Haaken. The documentary follows the journeys of individuals over a period of a year who enter the Oregon State Hospital under the "guilty except for insanity" plea. Site of the filming of One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, based on the novel by Ken Kesey, the Oregon State Hospital has been the focus of intense controversy, including charges by the U.S. Department of Justice of massive civil rights abuses of patients. This documentary tells a different side of the story-one from inside this asylum and from the perspectives of staff and patients.

Benefit includes short sneak preview of Guilty Except for Insanity, live music by Ellie and Super XX Man. From the Edge art auction includes paintings by Meghan Caughey, Gary Mac Smith, and Andrew Rowe. Appetizers & Beer/Wine Served
