"Fighting For Paradise: A Military History of The Pacific Northwest"

Speaker: Kurt R. Nelson

The PSU History alum (1971) will talk about his research and the Civil War connections spotlighted in his 2007 book on the battles and skirmishes that helped to define Oregon and the Pacific Northwest. Nelson will give details about the early military careers of several future Civil War military leaders who developed their combat skills in large and small confrontations with foreign powers (Capt George Pickett and the standoff at Griffin Bay) and Native American inhabitants.
