About the speaker:
Mr. Christopher W. Runckel is President and Principal of Runckel & Associates. Under President Ford, he served as Deputy General Counsel of the Presidential Clemency Board, which recommended clemency for Vietnam era draft deserters and evaders. In 1993, he was designated by President Clinton as US Special Negotiator for Vietnam. In 1994, he was the first permanently assigned U.S. diplomat to Hanoi since the Vietnam War, later serving as Deputy Chief of the US Liaison Office and US Embassy. In 1997, Mr. Runckel was recognized for the breadth of his contribution to U.S. - Vietnam relations by being awarded the U.S. Distinguished Honor Award, the highest U.S. Award for diplomatic service. In addition Mr. Runckel has served in foreign assignments in Hong Kong, Fiji, Thailand (two tours), London and in China. Mr. Runckel continues to advise Federal, State and Local government on a wide range of issues and works extensively on projects all over Asia. He is Honorary Chairman of the U.S. Vietnam Business Council and an active speaker on Asian and business subjects. His languages include Vietnamese, Thai, Chinese (Mandarin), French, German and Spanish.
Runckel & Associates is an International Business Consulting Firm based in Portland, Oregon that assists companies interested in manufacturing, investing or opening an office factory in Asia. Runckel & Associates also has developed and owns patents related to renewable fuels from agricultural waste and is currently commercializing these technologies.
