Vincent N. Schiraldi will present "Can Positive Youth Development Work As The Basis For Juvenile Justice Services?" This presentation will address the question of whether a traditionally deficit-based juvenile justice agency can help troubled young people turn their lives around by bolstering their resiliency factors or building on their strengths/assets.

Background:

Vincent Schiraldi brings nearly 30 years of experience working with troubled youth and juvenile justice systems to his current position as Director of the District of Columbia's Department of Youth Rehabilitation Services (DYRS). DYRS is actively involved in several innovative programming models, partnering with locally and nationally recognized juvenile justice centers in the following types of programs: juvenile justice, continuum of care, alternative sentencing, supervised citation release and supportive living.
