Student Legal and Mediation Services (SLMS) at Portland State University and the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People at Portland State University, proudly present "Busted: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters," film & discussion. This event will feature a screening of the instructional film BUSTED: The Citizen's Guide to Surviving Police Encounters, followed by a reception and Q&A session featuring Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Eric Bergstrom, Oregon Attorney General Elect John Kroger, and renowned criminal defense attorney Lawrence Matasar.

Created by Flex Your Rights and narrated by retired American Civil Liberties Union director Ira Glasser, BUSTED realistically depicts the pressure and confusion of common police encounters. In an entertaining and revealing manner, BUSTED illustrates the right and wrong ways to handle different police encounters and pays special attention to demonstrating how you, the viewer, can courteously and confidently refuse police searches. BUSTED re-enacts typical police encounters and exposes the tricks and intimidation tactics that police often use, and it shows viewers specifically what the laws are, how to anticipate the tricks, and how to "Just Say No" to police searches.
