Barbara Garson "Down is a Dangerous Direction"

Barbara Garson is a playwright, author, and public intellectual. She is the author of two classic books about work: The Electronic Sweatshop and All the Livelong Day. The latter has several chapters set in and around Portland, Oregon. In the 1960s Garson was the editor of The Free Speech Movement Newsletter on The UC Berkeley Campus and worked in an anti Vietnam War GI Coffee House Near Fort Lewis Army Base in Tacoma, Washington. Her Vietnam era play MacBird sold over half a million copies. Her writing honors include two OBIES, plus MacArthur, Guggenheim, and National Endowment for the Arts grants.
