Portland, OR - Miracles will be presented in the Portland State
University Opera Program's pairing of Gian Carlo Menotti's Amahl And The
Night Visitors and Seymour Barab's Only a Miracle December 11, at 7:30pm
and the 12, at 3pm in Lincoln Recital Hall Room 75. The operas relate
the stories of miracles connected to the birth of the Christ Child.
Menotti's Amahl And The Night Visitors tells the heart-warming story of
a crippled shepherd boy, his destitute mother and their encounter with
the three kings. Continuing the Christmas story is Barab's Only a
Miracle where the slave girl, Sylphinia, shelters the Holy Family to
protect them from King Herod. Sung in English, both operas appeal
equally to young and old.
As a part of this performance, award winning Portland artist, Leslee Lukosh, has provided an original piece of art to be auctioned after the Sunday performance. All proceeds from the auction will go to support the Portland State Student Opera Theater.
This event is sponsored by student financed Portland State Student Opera Theater whose mission is to further the goals of Portland State University's School of Fine & Performing Arts Department of Music strengthening Portland's extended cultural community by providing outstanding professional training and education in the performing and visual arts in partnership with the region's working artists and cultural institutions.
