The History Department and the PSU Challenge High School Program are honored to sponsor the 21st Young Historians Conference on April 19, 2011 at Portland State University. This Conference is for and about high school students--and, it is the best example of an "authentic" experience for students in history.
Students present research papers, that have been selected by a Jury of graduate students from the History Department, to an audience of fellow students. History faculty act as commentators to the papers, and the audience can ask questions and probe the conclusions of the presenters. Three concurrent sessions begin at 9:00. Three students in each session present their papers; historians comment; and then, the session is opened for questions. A second group of three concurrent sessions runs from 10:30-11:45 and a final group of three sessions runs from 1:00-2:15, when the Conference ends.
This is a powerful experience for all--presenters, students, faculty and high school instructors and we invite those of you interested in attending to join us. Click here for a program with complete details including the schedule, paper abstracts, rooms, etc.
