Uncle Chuck: The Shanghailander

The International Studies Program and the Institute of Asia Studies invites you to attend the Northwest debut of

"Uncle Chuck: The Shanghailander"

a documentary film examining the life-style of Americans in Shanghai in the 1920s-30s.

During the final decades of the imperial era, the city of Shanghai was controlled by Europeans, Americans and Japanese. This film puts family history in the context of imperial history and China's current rise and is Part 1 of the 'Uncle Chuck Chronicles', which traces one man's global journey through the 20th century.

Presented by filmmaker William A. Callahan, Professor of International Politics and China Studies at the University of Manchester. He is an expert on the politics of culture in China, and is a visiting professor of International Studies at PSU for Summer 2012.
