Applying to the IELP

Applying to the IELP is easy. No TOEFL score is required. The IELP accepts applications for each term if submitted on time.

Admission Requirements for All IELP Applicants:

  • Students must be 17 years of age or older
  • Completion of high school/secondary school or its equivalent
  • Prior academic experience with the English language

The IELP accepts students who fulfill the requirements for academic admission. Once accepted to the IELP program and in order to receive a Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for an F-1 Student Visa, students must be able to demonstrate sufficient financial support to pay for their studies and living expenses in Portland.

IELP Application Requirements

Full-time study
International applicants requiring an F-1 student visa and all applicants planning to study full-time must submit an Intensive English Language Program application form, in addition to all required supporting documents. See the IELP application process for step-by-step guidance.

Part-time study (non-degree seeking)
U.S. residents and international applicants who do not require an F-1 student visa AND who are eligible to enroll PART-TIME are considered non-degree students. To apply for part-time study in the IELP, students must submit the Non-Degree Student Entry form along with the part-time IELP application form. If a student wants to enroll in the IELP full-time, the student needs to submit an IELP application.

Part-time study (Formal admission)
F-2 visa holders are now eligible to apply for part-time formal admission. Students are limited to 16 credit hours a week, but are considered formally admitted to the program. To apply, please complete the IELP part-time application.
