Applying to the IELP
Admission Requirements for All Applicants:
- Students must be 17 years of age or older
- Completion of high school/secondary school or its equivalent
- Prior academic experience with the English language
The IELP accepts students who fulfill the requirements for academic admission. Once accepted to the program and in order to receive a Form I-20, Certificate of Eligibility for an F-1 Student Visa, students must be able to demonstrate sufficient financial support to pay for their studies and living expenses in Portland.
International applicants requiring an F-1 student visa and all applicants planning to study full-time must submit an Intensive English Language Program application form, in addition to all required supporting documents. See the application process for step-by-step guidance.
If you have any questions about F-1 student visas or other visa categories, please contact:

U.S. residents and international applicants who do not require an F-1 student visa AND who are eligible to enroll PART-TIME are considered non-degree students. To apply for part-time study in the IELP, students must submit the Non-Degree Student Entry form instead of the IELP application form. If a student wants to enroll in the IELP full-time, the student needs to submit an IELP application. For more information about non-degree student status, please contact:
