Certificate in Public Management
Today’s public administrators are responsible for managing increasingly complex budgets, programs, personnel and interagency partnerships. The graduate Certificate in Public Management (CPM) provides managers in both government and non-profit organizations the knowledge and skills necessary to be fully successful in carrying out their administrative responsibilities. Course sessions are designed and delivered with working professionals in mind.
Sacrifice. Service. Security. Sharing. A career in the public sector means different things to different people. At the Hatfield School of Government we understand what makes public service different and public servants special. We developed the CPM to meet the needs of mid-career professionals who want to make a difference in themselves, their organizations and the community. We offer a program that will help you develop the skills to innovate, collaborate and manage change.
If you have an undergraduate degree and experience working in a public agency, we can help you develop the managerial and leadership skills required to advance your organization and your career. The program’s combination of classroom and online learning make the course accessible to busy working professionals. Coursework focuses on contemporary problems confronting public agencies, and the faculty encourages students to integrate their work experience and assignments with their studies.
The Executive Leadership Institute delivers a variety of training courses designed to improve the knowledge and skills of those managing public and nonprofit organizations, many of which are delivered in direct collaboration with public agencies. However, we also welcome individual employees who choose to enroll in our programs on their own initiative. Our flexible study options allow busy professionals to balance competing commitments to work, home and student life through a combination of classroom and online study. Classroom sessions meet between three and six times per term and are scheduled either in the evening or on Saturdays.
The Hatfield School of Government’s faculty combines decades of practical experience with a record of exemplary scholarship in public administration, leadership, civic engagement, cultural diversity and sustainability. Our faculty shares a commitment to reflective practice; we believe the integration of theory and practice is vital to the effective administrative of public enterprises.
