GSE Professional Development & Teacher Preparation

GSE faculty and staff have developed a number of programs and resources to help meet the professional development needs of teachers and other education professionals. Programs that prepare teachers to work with visually impaired learners or to work in bilingual and bi-cultural settings are among two such examples. A special interest group for middle level educators is another.

AERA: Reasearch in Middle Level Education Special Interest Group (MLER-SIG)

The purpose of the MLER-SIG is: to improve, promote, and disseminate educational research reflecting early adolescence and middle level education. Dr. Micki Caskey is the author and manager of the web site for this organization.

Portland State University developed the Extended Career and Life Role Assessment System (Extended CLRAS) to implement a functional assessment approach appropriate for students with moderate to severe disabilities. Extended CLRAS extends assessment of student functioning in content areas that match the Career and Life Role education standards of the Common Curriculum Goals (CCG).

Bilingual Teacher Pathways (BTP)

A teacher preparation program designed to fill critical shortages of bilingual education/ESL teachers in the Portland/Vancourver metropolitan area and Southwest Washington by recruiting and supporting educational assistants and secondary students so they can become licensed teachers.

Continuing Education (CEED)

Continuing Education in the Graduate School of Education (CE/ED) is a department that provides quality education that supports the professional growth of PreK-16 educators, trainers, and human service professionals.
