Hillsboro School District

The Noyce Scholarship program is an outgrowth of a new partnership between Portland State University's Graduate School of Education and the Center for Science Education and the Beaverton School District. The goal of this partnership is to put scholarship in science teaching, learning and education theory into practice in the classroom.

To accomplish this goal, the Noyce scholarship program is designed to graduate a group of Elementary and Secondary level teacher scholars who will advance this mission.

The two-year intensive program includes one year to earn a Masters in Science Teaching (MST) and the second year to earn an Oregon teaching license through the Graduate Teacher Education Program (GTEP). The Noyce program at PSU has two tracks: one for future Elementary Educators and one for future Secondary Educators. Both include training for working with bilingual and underrepresented student populations, as well as the integration of technology into science teaching practice. Both Elementary and Secondary level Noyce scholars will be required to teach for 2 years for each year of funding (a total of 4 years) at a high-need public school in the U.S. upon graduation. See the "obligations" section below for details.
