The Environmental Sciences Division of the National Exposure Research
Laboratory (NERL), Office of Research and Development (ORD) at the U.S.
Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) is seeking a graduate student to
provide services under a contractual agreement to serve on a research
group in ecosystem services in arid and semi-arid regions. It is
anticipated that the student contractor will work up to 20 hours per

JOB DESCRIPTION:
Full or part time research assistant(s) to Professors Amy Finkelstein (MIT) and Kate Baicker (Harvard).
We are looking to hire one or more full-time research assistant(s) to begin in the summer of 2010 and to
work for a year. The position will entail assistance with all stages of empirical research on the Oregon
Health Study. This multi-million dollar empirical project uses a randomized experiment conducted by the
state of Oregon to evaluate the impact of expanding health insurance to low income adults on their health
care use, health outcomes, financial well-being, and overall well-being. More information about this on-

Candidates should have an interest in applying to a quantitative Ph.D. program (preferably in economics)
and in pursuing a research career. Applicants must have strong programming and quantitative skills and
experience as a research assistant. Excellent grades are required. The job is ideal for someone with an
enthusiasm for empirical research, and an ability and interest in learning new skills and taking initiative as
a project develops.
The position is located at the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) in Cambridge
Massachusetts, with the opportunity to interact with economics undergraduates, graduate students, and
faculty from both Harvard and MIT. Annual salary is $42,000, along with access to the NBER’s
employee health insurance plan after a 90-day waiting period.
