How to Apply

Undergraduate Program
Please apply directly to the Portland State University Admissions Department. ECE students must apply and be accepted to the program to take upper division courses numbered 300 or higher. Please see the ECE Admissions process.
Fast Track B.S. + M.S.
Students in our undergraduate program can choose to apply for a Fast Track program that allows for shared credits between the bachelor's and master's programs. Please see the Fast Track B.S. + M.S. page for more information.
Graduate Program
First, apply to PSU Admissions, obtain a PSU identification number, and mail any required documents to the Admissions Office. Then, apply to the ECE Department online. The ECE Department application process is completely online. Mailed materials will not be reviewed. The only departmental materials that should be mailed are the official GRE scores from ETS, if required.
You will need the following items for the online application:
- Names and contact information for three reference letters
- Unofficial transcript for uploading
In addition to the online application, you must submit official GRE scores. GRE scores are required for applicants to the Ph.D. and the M.S. programs. The GRE is waived for M.S. students who graduated with a B.S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering from an ABET-Accredited institution. All GRE scores must be reported to Institution Code 4610, Department Code 1201 or 1203.

Ph.D. Program
Before applying to our PhD program, you should find a faculty dissertation adviser. First, look over our faculty list to find someone who works in your field of interest. The department has many ongoing research programs and supporting research laboratories.
