Smith Memorial Student Union Ballroom This event is by invitation only for students achieving Latin Honors and the 2009 Commendation and Excellence Awards
PSU awards Latin honors for undergraduate students only. To
qualify, students must have at least 72 credits at PSU, 60 of which must be taken
for differentiated grades (not Pass/No Pass). Only PSU credits will be used in
this calculation. The honors levels for the ceremony are calculated based on
coursework completed through Winter 2009.
Honors are awarded as follows:
Summa cum laude 3.90
to 4.00
Magna cum laude
3.80 to 3.89
Cum laude 3.67 to 3.79
Qualifying students will be mailed an invitation to the
2009 Senior Student Recognition Ceremony in late May.
Commendation and Excellence Awards
Commendation Awards were established to recognize and encourage outstanding academic achievement and service among students. Each spring, Commendation Awards are given to one undergraduate and one graduate student from each school or college. Commendation Award recipients are also considered for the Awards of Excellence, which are given to one undergraduate and one graduate student.
Eligibility for the Commendation Awards requires:
♦ A minimum cumulative GPA of 3.50 for undergraduate and 3.75 for graduate students; ♦ Enrollment in at least one credit during the current academic year; ♦ A graduation date of Fall '08, Winter '09, Spring '09, or Summer '09; and ♦ A record of scholarly excellence.
Nominated students should be able to demonstrate achievement based on the following:
♦ An outstanding academic record (scholarships, awards, and honors); ♦ Scholarly research and creativity; ♦ Involvement in internships and practicum or community engagement; and ♦ Demonstrated leadership and service and active involvement in the community.
Please click here for Commendation Awards nomination forms. Please complete and submit the nomination form with the nominated student's resume and recommendation letter(s) to the Office of the Dean of Students no later than 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 22, 2009.
The Commendation Awards and Awards of Excellence will be presented at the Senior Student Recognition Ceremony on Thursday, June 11, 2009. Please give serious consideration to this opportunity for recognition of our students' academic achievement and service.
