Profile: Meet Student Ambassador Jorge Urzua

First Year Ambassador

Major: Business Administration & Marketing

I am originally from Guadalajara Jalisco, Mexico. Along with my family we immigrated to the United States and settled in Woodburn, Oregon. As a first generation college student I decided to attend Portland State University due to its close proximity to Woodburn and because PSU has an excellent business school. Portland is the hub of Oregon business, which is great as a business major to pursuit networking opportunities and position myself in the business industry. I truly believe that I would not be in my current position if it weren’t for my father whose endurance, sacrifice and dedication to his family. My father has been a tremendous influence in my life. I have inherited my father’s traits, which have enabled me to overcome challenges and become the first in my family to graduate high school and pursuit a college degree. My favorite memory of PSU came when I was a senior at Woodburn High School and the PSU onsite admissions were on campus. I submitted my application to the admissions counselor and after a couple of minutes she called my name and greeted me with a smile and a certificate of acceptance.
