AIMAN AL KHACHI

Aiman Al Khachi was born in United Arab Emirates and his nationality is Syrian and Filipino. Aiman is currently a fifth year undergraduate student at Portland State University. He is majoring in Advertising Management and Marketing while minoring in Design Management. Aiman currently works as the Marketing and Public Relations Assistant for the Cultural Centers. Last year, he was the Publicity Coordinator for PSU Kaibigan, a non-profit Filipino American student group. In addition, Aiman has experience as a Resident/Community Assistant for on campus housing. This year Aiman is focusing on graduating and transitioning to find a full-time position with the City of Portland.

My name is Jenny Pham, and I am a junior at Portland State University. This year will be my second year working for the Cultural Center as their Administrative Assistant. I have also participated in PSU Kaibigan for 2 years now as a Recuritment Coordinator and a Secretary as an extracurricular activity while studying at Portland State. Currently I am doing my pre-requisites for Ultrasound Radiology and then transfer to OIT.

Thao Pham was born and raised in the southern coast of Vietnam, at the age of seven her family emigrated to the United States and have settled in Portland, Oregon ever since. Graduated from David Douglas High School in 2010 and have attended Portland State Univeristy as of Fall 2010. She is majoring in Psychology and will be carrying those skills into Occupational Therapy Assisting. This is her first year working in the MCC and she is extremely excited to be a part of this collaborative team. She is looking forward to gain experiences in communications, leadership skills, and to immerse herself in this diversifying community.

My name is Xiaotong Wu, I'm from China. I am a graduate student, and I expect to receive my Masters in Finance next year. I am currently working as the Accounting and Admin Assistant for the Multicultural Center. I am very happy to work and meet different people in this diverse cultural environment on campus. Besides working and going to class, I like traveling. I really enjoy tasting different countries' food and meeting nice people.

My name is Elin Berglund, and I am currently a Sophmore studying Pre- Education/Special Ed here at Portland State. I chose PSU, not only because of the great SPED program that is offered, but also because I was sure I wanted to get involved in the diverse and welcoming culture that surrounds campus. Growing up in a bi-cultural Swedish/American family, and having the oppuritunity to experience an abundance of cultures just living in Portland, I am very eager to have gotten the oppurtunity to be a part of Multicultural Center family this year!

Dang Ha is a senior at Portland State University. He is currently studying general science. This is his 4th year living in Portland. His hometown is San Diego California. He grew up in a well diverse community. Dang enjoys spending his spare time fishing.

Dmitry Vityukov is a junior at Portland State. He is currently studying to become a dentist. Dmitry was born in Oddessa Ukraine. I came here when I was 8 months old, we moved to Salem Oregon. There he went to school and after High School he decided to head to Portland State to pursue my dreams of becoming the league’s best Pokémon trainer. He moved in with my brother in Clackamas in September. He hopes to graduate here in two terms and apply to pro school at OHSU. He loves to spend time with family, watch and play sports and in his free time I love to fish, hunt, and watch the Blazers and Seahawks!

My name is Darius Ortega and I am currently a freshman at Portland State University. I was born and raised in Denver, Colorado and was fortunate enough to have the opportunity of coming to Portland for my higher education. I am currently Undecided, but have been thinking about majoring in Social Sciences. I come from a Hispanic family and I am proud to be a part of the Multicultural Centers team, to help demonstrate equality and diversity in education. This is my first year as a Receptionist for the Cultural Centers.

My name is Dena Livingstone. I moved from New York to Oregon to begin attending Portland State University in September 2011. Currently I am a junior at Portland State University pursuing a double major in both Biology and Graphic Design and I am glad that I was given the opportunity to become a student worker in the Multicultural Center this year. I love the cultural diversity that lives within the center and I am happy to be a part of the student worker team.

I'm Melissa Bui, I’m Vietnamese but I was born and raised in Portland Oregon. I was raised in a very diverse environment, I was able to learn English and Vietnamese at the same time. I’m currently a sophomore at Portland State University. When I'm not in school, I enjoy traveling, camping, fishing, and knitting scarves. I have been working at La Casa Latina and the Multicultural Center since October.

I was born in Southern California but moved to Oregon when I was five. Grew up in east Multnomah County in Gresham. Graduated Sam Barlow High School in June of 2010 and been at PSU since Fall of 2010. Aside from working at the Cultural Centers since January of this year, I have been involved in a couple of student clubs on campus and currently form part of PSU’s Student Ambassador team, where we recruit prospect students and interact with high level donors. Majoring in Community Development with a certificate in Chicano/Latino Studies, I hope to bring change to my community. Outside of the classroom I enjoy playing soccer and working out, watching movies, food and wine tasting, and just overall relaxing at home.

Maria Bartolome, Junior at Portland State University. Born in Fresno, California and raised in Portland, OR. Bilingual in Spanish. My major is Social Work and minor in International Studies. This is my second year in the programming team, improving my leadership skills and knowledge about diverse groups. I am part of Las mujeres, MEChA, volunteering with Refugee Resettlement through Catholic Charities, DMSS 425 Committee, teacher and youth leader at my church.

I was born in southern California and grew up in a household of 11 people. My parents are both from Jalisco, México and immigrated to the U.S. in the 70s. As a transfer student I came to PSU with the goal of attaining a degree that would encourage me in my path to becoming an educator. Now as a senior, I will not only receive two degrees in Art Practices and Spanish but I will also receive a certificate in Chicana/Latin studies.  

 
DESSA SALAVEDRA

Dessa Salavedra was born and raised in the Philippines and moved to Portland, Oregon in 2005. She is currently a third year student at Portland State University majoring in Community Health. Dessa recently finished her internship as an Outreach and Events intern for the Coalition of Community Health Clinics, a non-profit network of 14 safety clinics that provides high quality and culturally appropriate care to patients who are uninsured or undeserved in the Portland-Metropolitan area. She currently works for the Native American Student and Community Center at Portland State University as a Student Office Assistant. In addition, she is also a team member for the Programming Team at the Multicultural center. She was involved in multiple extracurricular activities. Last year, she was the Communications Coordinator for PSU Kaibigan, a non-profit Filipino American Student Association. Additionally she was a Treasurer for the Cambodian Student Association, a non-profit Cambodian American Student Group. This year, she became a part of the Asian Pacific Islander Community Leadership Institute, which vision is to address racial and ethnic disparities among the API community.
