Oregon Black History Timeline
This is a 50 slide timeline and audio commentary created by Walidah Imarisha for a program called "Why Aren't There More Black People in Oregon?: A Hidden History, "which looks at the history of race, identity and power in Oregon and the larger nation. Oregon has a history not only of Black exclusion and discriination, but also of a vibrant Black culture that helped sustain many communities through the state--a history that is not taught in schools. Oregon as a state was explicitly founded on the idea of creating a white natnionalist utopia, and in that way is a useful case study to see the mentatlity that nationally shaped the institutions that govern our lives. PSU Diversity Action Council Awards Mini Grants to Foster Diversity

April 29, 2011 - Portland State University's Diversity Action Council (DAC) has awarded seven "mini-grants" totaling $7,000 for faculty and staff projects that advance diversity at PSU. The awardees will be honored and will discuss their projects at a campus forum Wednesday, May 18, from noon to 2 p.m. at the Multicultural Center, Smith Memorial Student Union room 238. Read More
