Diet for a Small Planet author to give PSU Weekend keynote

Best-selling author Frances Moore Lappé comes to Portland State Saturday, Oct. 27, as the keynote speaker for PSU's 17th annual community educational event PSU Weekend. Lappé will give a talk based on her latest book, Getting a Grip: Clarity, Creativity, & Courage in a World Gone Mad. read more >

Student Affairs Vice Provost candidates on campus

The campus community is invited to meet the final two candidates for vice provost for Student Affairs. An all-campus session is scheduled Oct. 11 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. with Neil Mathews, vice chancellor for student life and academic services at Louisiana State University, Baton Rouge. The following day from 8:30 to 10 a.m. an open forum is planned with Tim Quinnan, vice president for student services and enrollment management at Stark State College, North Canton, Ohio. Both sessions are in 238 Smith Union.

Unique program supports commercialization of university research

A 60 percent income tax credit is now available to Oregon taxpayers who contribute to a new program designed to fast-track commercialization of research discoveries at Oregon's eight public universities. Portland's age friendliness revealed in global guide

Portland does a good job of providing transportation and community services for its citizens who are 65 years and older. However, affordable housing and employment opportunities are lacking. These findings and others were presented in Portland last week by Margaret Neal, Institute on Aging director, and doctoral student Alan DeLaTorre as part of the World Health Organization's landmark "Global Age-Friendly Cities: A Guide." read more >

Social Sustainability Colloquium begins fourth year

"A General Theory of Sustainability," a discussion by Gary Larson, opens the fourth annual Social Sustainability Colloquium Friday, Oct. 12, from 1 to 3 p.m. in 298 Smith Union. Larson, a Mt. Hood National Forest supervisor, was an adviser for President Clinton's Council on Sustainable Development.
