09 Nov 2009 Dilafruz Williams sits on panel at Urban Schools National Town Hall Meeting
Dilafruz Williams, Education faculty and Portland school board member, was a panelist on Teaching English Language Learners at an Urban Schools National Town Hall Meeting that included the U.S. Assistant Secretary for Elementary and Secondary Education. The meeting was held in conjunction with the Council of the Great City Schools' Annual Fall Conference in Portland, Oct. 28 to Nov. 1.
09 Nov 2009 Eva Thanheiser speaks at meeting on psychology of mathematics
Eva Thanheiser, Mathematics and Statistics faculty, presented two papers and chaired a working group at the 31st annual meeting of The North American Chapter of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, held in Atlanta, Sept. 23-26. The co-authored papers, which will be published in the conference proceedings, are "Exploring Preservice Teachers' Conceptions of Numbers Via the Mayan Number System" and "Understanding Base Ten Numbers: Why Don't You Just Tell Them it is Ten?" The working group was on preservice elementary school teachers' content knowledge in mathematics.

She also participated on a panel, Innovation for Action: Moving the Outdoor Classroom Agenda Forward.

Suwako Watanabe, Foreign Languages and Literatures faculty, was an invited panelist and presented "ACTFL OPI-c: How is Oral Proficiency Assessed with Computer?" for the panel on computerized assessment of language proficiency at the Seventh International Symposium on Japanese Oral Proficiency Interview in Seoul, South Korea, July 19-20. At the same symposium, she reported on her research study, "Assessing the Ability to Use Honorifics with Role Play at the Superior Level."
