30 Mar 2009 Carl Wamser, David Sailor, and Todd Rosenstiel receive National Science Foundation grant
Carl Wamser, Chemistry faculty; David Sailor, Mechanical and Materials Engineering faculty; and Todd Rosenstiel, Biology faculty, have been awarded a $300,000 grant from the National Science Foundation for a project that will investigate the effects of combining green roofs with solar arrays. The project has attracted collaboration and support from Portland General Electric, the City of Portland Bureau of Environmental Services, and Oregon Built Environment and Sustainable Technologies Center (Oregon BEST).
09 Mar 2009 Martin Streck receives grant from National Science Foundation
Martin Streck, Geology faculty, received a $68,228 grant from the National Science Foundation to investigate the occurrence of high-S apatite in lavas of the 1991 Pinatubo, Philippines, eruption.
02 Mar 2009 Natan Meir receives Professor Bernard Choseed Memorial Fellowship
Natan Meir, Judaic Studies faculty, was chosen by YIVO Institute for Jewish Research New York City as the recipient of this year's Professor Bernard Choseed Memorial Fellowship. The fellowship supports advanced research in East European Jewish Studies and carries a stipend of $7,500, providing for a period of one to three months of research at the YIVO Library and Archives and a public lecture by the holder. Meir will use the fellowship to do research for his project on “Marginal Jews in East European Jewish Society,” which investigates groups such as orphans, the physically disabled, the mentally ill, and the destitute, from three angles: communal and societal attitudes, the everyday lives of marginal Jews, and cultural discourse.
02 Mar 2009 Carl Wamser receives donation from Silicon Chemical Corporation
Carl Wamser, Chemistry faculty, received an unsolicited, unrestricted donation of $25,000 from Silicon Chemical Corporation of Vancouver, Wash., to support solar energy education and research.
