Engineering dean to step down

Robert Dryden, dean of the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science for the past 13 years, has announced that he will step down, effective June 30. Dick Knight, a 32-year veteran of the high tech industry, will be the interim dean during the search for Dryden's replacement. read more >

Dancing at Lughnasa opens this week

The Tony Award-winning play, Dancing at Lughnasa, the story of five, Irish sisters opens Friday, May 23, at 7:30 p.m. in Lincoln Performance Hall and continues through May 31. Faculty and staff tickets are $8.50 and may be purchased at the PSU Box Office or at the door. read more >

Retirement party planned for Teri Mariani

The Athletics program invites the campus community to celebrate Teri Mariani's 32 years of service at a retirement reception Tuesday, May 27, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. in the Native American Center. During her first 29 years, Mariani served as the Vikings softball coach and a department administrator. After retiring from coaching three years ago, she worked in Athletic administration, including a 14-month stint as the interim Athletic director. read more >

Important changes to affect fall student enrollment

Faculty and staff should be aware that a number of changes will impact student registration and advising this fall. The changes include new financial aid census date, key registration deadlines, tuition schedules, online payment, and online class schedule. To review the changes, visit www.pdx.edu/registration/.

Diversity Awards Reception Wednesday

The Fourth Annual Portland State Diversity Awards Reception is Wednesday, May 21, at 3 p.m. in the Smith Union Ballroom, room 355. The keynote speaker is Robert Jensen, University of Texas journalism professor. He will discuss media and power. The reception will also honor faculty, staff, and students who have advanced PSU's Diversity Initiative.

Residence hall to receive Joseph Blumel's name

West Hall housing, 1705 SW 11th, will be renamed Joseph C. Blumel Residence Hall in a ceremony Friday, May 23, at 3 p.m. at the building's main entrance. Blumel, now deceased, was the University's fourth and longest tenured president.

Faculty Senate election results

Elections for most of the 2008-09 Faculty Senate positions recently concluded, except for runoffs in two units. The senate will be comprised of 111 voting members, an increase of three members from last year. read more >

Campus community contributes to food drive

Portland State contributed 1,550 pounds of food and $1,050 to the 2008 Governor's State Employee Food Drive, which benefits the Oregon Food Bank Network. In the Portland metropolitan area, the Oregon Food Bank partners with more than 340 local agencies, including emergency food box programs, soup kitchens, adult and children's shelters, group home, and senior centers to help eliminate hunger.
