Honor your colleagues at Wednesday reception

Everybody Reads on campus

For the second year in a row, Portland State is partnering with the Multnomah County Library for Everybody Reads by offering lectures, roundtable discussions, and a public exhibit—all focused on Judy Fong Bates' Midnight at the Dragon Café. Campus involvement kicks off with "The 'Yellow Peril' and the Pacific Coast Race Riots of 1907" Feb. 6 at 7 p.m. on second floor, Millar Library. read more >

Recycle to win

Portland State is again competing in Recyclemania, a nationwide recycling competition for colleges and universities that runs through April 7. Schools compete to collect the largest amount of recyclables, the least amount of trash, and have the highest average recycling rate campus wide. read more >

Winter Student Affairs newsletter is online

The winter 2007 issue of Spotlight on Student Affairs, a newsletter for faculty and staff, is now on the Web at The newsletter gives those who have direct contact with students a better understanding of Student Affairs. read more >

Run for the PSU Bookstore Board of Directors

Help oversee the operations of the PSU Bookstore by serving on its board of directors. The board has two faculty/staff open positions, one at large, and three open student positions. Candidates must be a member of the bookstore, which is free to current faculty and staff. Membership signup and nomination applications are available at the Customer Services Desk. Nominations are due by noon Feb. 16.

Call to answer OPB phones

Volunteers are needed to answer phones on television Sunday, March 11, from 7 to 10:15 p.m. for the Oregon Public Broadcasting membership drive. The School of Extended Studies is getting a team together to support OPB and display PSU colors. If interested, contact Shelly Rude at or 5-8091. That night's program is "Best of Nature." Desserts and snacks will be provided.

Faculty members Sheila Martin and Annette Jolin were recently invited to testify before legislative committees. President Dan Bernstine was also in Salem discussing PSU priorities, including funding for faculty salaries, enrollment growth, and capital projects.
