University makes presidential honor roll for second year

Portland State was recognized for it extraordinary contributions to service in the community through the 2007 President's Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll. Last week, six Oregon institutions were named, but only PSU made the "honor roll with distinction." read more >

Prohibition era in Seattle comes to life at book launch party

The final work of the late Philip Metcalfe, an acclaimed Portland author and PSU alumnus, will make its debut Feb. 21 with a program of dramatic readings sponsored by PSU's Friends of History at 7:30 p.m. in 294 Smith Union. David Horowitz, professor of history, is coordinating the reading of Whispering Wires: the Tragic Tale of an American Bootlegger. read more >

Competing edible cars, mouse traps and more on campus this week

More than 500 middle and high school students from Oregon and Southwest Washington will compete in Portland State's 2008 Engineering Design Competition Friday,
Feb. 22, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the small gymnasium of the Peter Stott Center. An awards ceremony is planned at 2 p.m. The event is sponsored by the Maseeh College of Engineering and Computer Science. read more >

Reclaiming Futures subject of Shireman lecture

"Reclaiming Futures: Changing Communities One Teen at a Time" is the School of Social Work's Charles Shireman Memorial Lecture Tuesday, March 4, at 7:30 p.m. in the Smith Union Ballroom. Financial planning fair for staff and faculty

Representatives from the Oregon University System and its investment providers will discuss plans and strategies for retirement saving at the annual Retirement Fair Thursday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Representatives will sit at tables in 296 Smith Union and hourly presentations are planned in 228 Smith Union.
