University joins international higher ed network

PSU has joined the Council of Europe's Network for Higher Education and Democratic Culture. Universities and higher education associations from around the world belong to the network, which was formed in June in Strasbourg, France. The group promotes the principles of democratic citizenship, human rights and civic responsibility in higher education. read more >

Get your event or lecture on new Oregon Channel

Media services at Oregon State University is collecting quality programs from universities and other public agencies for a six-hour block each Sunday evening on the new Oregon Channel. Public lectures, seminars, conferences, interviews, hearings, and cultural and historical events will be considered. Bernstine shines at spelling bee

President Dan Bernstine received a standing ovation for correctly spelling eleemosynary at a Wells Fargo Celebrity Spelling Bee held at the Portland Art Museum Jan. 25. He ended up coming in second to Oregonian columnist Jonathan Nicholas when he misspelled onomatopoeia. read more >

People are great at Portland State, according to Pati Sluys, executive assistant in Education, who was honored for 30 years of commitment at the Length of Service awards Feb. 7. However, retirement gives Sluys thoughts of travel to places with beautiful beaches, good food and interesting sites. Retirement dreams, memorable moments, and little know facts about 27 longtime faculty and staff were shared at the Human Resources-sponsored event. read more >

Young jazz artist concert features Wilson High prodigy

Christopher Brown, talented saxophonist, drummer, composer, and son of Portland drum legend Mel Brown, returns to Portland as the featured artist at the Third Annual Leroy Vinnegar Jazz Institute Young Artist Jazz Concert Wednesday, Feb. 21, at 7:30 p.m. at The Old Church, 1422 SW 11th Ave. Tickets are available at the PSU Box Office or with any Ticketmaster outlet. read more >

PSU Bookstore accepting book scholarship applications

The Portland State Bookstore will award $40,000 in book scholarships during the 2007-2008 year to qualified students who apply by March 1. Last year, the new program awarded $35,000 in book scholarships. Students may apply at portlandstate.scholarships.nelnet.net/. read more >
